2011 Casa Maria Tea & Bazaar
My aunt, Sister Ruth Hennessey, is a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Peterborough. For a number of years now, my aunt, along with a great board of directors and volunteers, has been working tirelessly to help refugees. They assist people from countries such as Columbia, Equador, Somalia, Tibet; who have had to flee their homeland and are seeking safety and shelter in our country. Many have been forced to leave behind family, friends, and excellent careers in order to save their lives.
Following the info about the Bazaar you will find some links about some of the refugees.
The Sisters own 3 houses in Peterborough known as "Casa Maria Refugee Homes". The Bazaar is their major annual fundraiser so please mark your calendars and get a head start on your Christmas shopping ...

A Silent Auction with items from Dan Joyce's Classic Clothing, Knock on Wood, and many other great donors.
(I was so excited to see the beautiful items that have been donated by Dan Joyce's Classic Clothing that I had to try them on and share them with you!  I handed my aunt my camera phone so you could get a sneak preview of these great clothes that will be part of the Silent Auction!!)
This set includes a very soft black mock-neck sweater, the red vest which is reversible and the scarf in this season's hottest animal print!  (old baggy jeans are mine & not included - heehee)
This jacket is by Joseph Ribkoff!!!  It would be a perfect piece for all your upcoming Christmas events paired with black slacks or skirt.
Such a fun jacket in a cool zebra print.  It doesn't show up in the photo, but the cuffs and front have some black and clear bling sparkle.

Keep warm and look hot in this A-line swing wool coat and matching scarf!  Beautiful button front coat.
I TOLD you this was an amazing Bazaar!
Check back late afternoon/early evening on Friday - I'll try to you an advanced sneak peek from inside the Knight's of Columbus Hall.
Please support the many merchants who are so generous to Casa Maria!
Hope to see you there!!!

Casa Maria Homes for Refugees .... people they have helped .....
For many of the refugees, their stories won't be told publicly - the fear of reprisal remains.  But a blog on the Kawartha Lakes/Peterborough This Week site features the stories of some of the refugees who are creating homes and businesses in Peterborough:
There are several videos filmed by The New Canadian Centre in Peterborough which feature Khadija Warsame from Somalia:

Khadija was the New Canadian Centre Volunteer of the Year:

A wonderful place to eat in Peterborough is Karma's Cafe.  It's owner & amazing chef, Karma and his family were also helped by Casa Maria:
